CHARITY WORK

At The Manchester Shop, we believe it's incredibly important to give back to our local community. After all, they have given so much to us, and we wouldn't be who we are today without them!
We've been donating to the foundations who mean the most to us since we opened our doors in 2016, but why have we chosen to work with the people we do? Our Retail Manager Miki talks about why raising funds for these special charities matters.

Miki Christi - The Manchester Shop

Home is where the heart is.

That's an old saying my nan used to repeat and it stayed with me all my life.
Manchester is where my heart is. The Manchester Shop is my love song to the city I call home. If my home is Manchester, that makes all fellow Mancs (be it born n bred or honorary) our family. We should take care of our brothers and sisters when they need a hand. We wanted to give something back to the city we love.

Manchester Women's Aid - pankhursttrust.org

I grew up around domestic abuse and violence. For many people, it's a part of daily life. Manchester Women's Aid can help. We want to help raise awareness of the charity's existence for those who need help and provide donations to help keep this amazing organisation running.
Manchester Women’s Aid provides vital support services to those suffering from domestic violence and abuse. Through community outreach, group work sessions, children’s play, safe homes and educational resources, they aim to create a world where domestic abuse survivors can live fear-free.
How we help - We donate 15% of sales from our Womanchester Range sold in our shop and online. We also have an exclusive mug gift set and donate £5 from each sale to the charity.
In March 2023, we set the goal to raise £1000 for the charity with the launch of our Be a Rebel range, inspired by the iconic Emmeline Pankhurst quote.

Coffee4Craig - coffee4craig.com

Taking a walk through our city whilst beautiful and amazing, can be equally heart-breaking. The number of homeless people living on our streets is increasing daily. We wanted to find a way to provide some support and comfort and then we found Coffee4Craig. What an amazing organisation.
Coffee4Craig provides vital support for Manchester’s homeless and people in crisis. Each evening they operate an out of hours drop-in service in the heart of Manchester city centre. They offer hot food, showers, food parcels, medical support and mental health crisis intervention. People are treated with respect and compassion. There is always a shoulder, a friendly ear, the kettle is always on and access to the services and help people need.
How we help - £5 of every online and in-store sale of our Coffee4Craig mug gift set is donated to the charity. We started this campaign during the COVID pandemic and set out to raise £2500 by selling 500 mugs. Because the people of Manchester are amazing and our spirit is so strong, we hit that target in 9 months! And we're thrilled that we're going to continue selling the mug and donating to Coffee4Craig.

Manchester Bee Charity T-shirt - The Manchester Shop

Manc & Proud Charity T-Shirt

On 22nd May 2017, 22 people were killed as a result of a terrorist incident at Manchester Evening News Arena during an Ariana Grande concert. This shocked the whole city, we never thought something this tragic could happen in our home. Everyone wanted to help, we got together and thought about what we could do. Our Manc and Proud logo t-shirt had been a best seller for us throughout the year, so we decided to give £10 profit from each sale to the British Red Cross through the MEN JustGiving fund.
The response was incredible. We were getting orders from all over the world, hundreds of people wanted to show support for the cause. While we worked solidly to make sure people got their shirts, Manchester rebuilt itself, the community stood together and got stronger. After an emotional month of making thousands of t-shirts (and drinking thousands of brews!) we made our first donation of £11,370. We were overwhelmed with this achievement and incredibly grateful to everyone who bought a t-shirt from us. Whether it was online, in Afflecks or at Manchester Market, the donations were sent on to a very worthy cause. We carried on for another month and raised over £13,000. Thank you to anyone who supported us at this time!

My nan also used to say, "it's nice to be nice" - she was right, it is.
