This Votes for Women tote is a tribute to Manchester's very own leading Suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. Pankhurst fought for women’s suffrage until she died in June 1928, 2 weeks before the right to vote was given to all women. On the eve of her 55th birthday, weak from hunger strikes and multiple imprisonments, she delivered a speech to her fellow suffragettes, stating “I’d rather be a rebel than a slave.” She was born in Moss Side!
